Luncheon speakers: Amy Walter and Stuart Rothenberg, nationally known political analysts, will share their insights on the direction of the country as they preview the midterm national elections and their impact on Minnesota’s gubernatorial and legislative races. Walter, named one of the top 50 journalists by Washingtonian magazine, was recognized as one of the most powerful people in politics by George magazine for her insights into the mechanics that make the political machine run. Rothenberg is an editor, publisher and political analyst best known for his nonpartisan political newsletter, The Rothenberg Political Report.
The Annual Meeting will provide an insiders’ perspective on the midterm elections and their impact on the direction of the country. This event will also recognize member volunteers and thank those who have made a difference in the organization throughout the years. The 2009-2010 Chair of the Board Dave McMillan, Minnesota Power, will hand the leadership to 2010-2011 Chair of the Board, Andrea Walsh, HealthPartners. The new Board of Directors and committee leadership will be introduced.
The Issue Conference will focus on how the Minnesota Chamber will be engaged in advancing strategies to make state government more efficient in its delivery of programs and services. Findings of the annual Minnesota Business Barometer will set the stage for a discussion on spending reform and service redesign. The Chamber will present a four-part strategy for government redesign and reform, and a panel of local government officials will share steps they have taken to gain efficiencies. The Chamber also will share findings from a survey on public employee compensation and teachers’ contracts. The session will conclude with a keynote speech by David Osborne, author, “Reinventing Government: How The Entrepreneurial Spirit Is Transforming The Public Sector.”
