Personnel Templates: Essential Resources For Minnesota Businesses

Minnesota business owners are busy, so it's great that employers and HR managers can count on the Minnesota Chamber Business Services to provide important employment-related information and updates on policy changes and new regulations.

Employers have access to free personnel templates and information because the Minnesota Chamber sees value in providing the state's employers with these essential resources. It's good for business.

Minnesota Personnel Records

In accordance with the Minnesota Personnel Record Review and Access Act (M.S. ยง181.9631), Minnesota employers with 20 or more employees are obligated to inform new employees of their right to review their personnel files along with the remedies associated with that review.

Through the Minnesota Chamber Business Services partnership with Employers Association, the Chamber has developed two templates for our members' use. Both forms have been reviewed for legality purposes.

The first document can be incorporated into the personnel manual and the second can be used for new hire notification.

» Personnel file review statement
» Notice of rights to access to personnel file for all new hires

OSHA Posting

As employers prepare for the New Year, remember that the OSHA Summary Form 300A must be prepared and posted.

To obtain a form or for a side-by-side, go to OSHA Recordkeeping. This form summarizes the entries from the Form 300 Log at the end of the year and is posted from February 1 to April 30 of the following year. The annual summary also must be certified by an executive of your organization.

Some organizations are exempt from these filing and posting requirements. OSHA uses the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code to determine which establishments must keep records. You can search for SIC Codes by keywords or your 4-digit SIC to retrieve descriptive information on OSHA's SIC System Search.
