Olson left his mark on state

David Olson’s passion for and contributions to developing and growing Minnesota’s economy are continuing via an endowed scholarship created at the College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato with guidance and fundraising support from the Minnesota Chamber and the David C. Olson family.

The scholarship’s goal is build business community leadership in state public affairs. Each year’s scholar receives tuition support and a paid internship with a local chamber of commerce or the Minnesota Chamber. The internship introduces them to the business community and the chambers’ role resolving state business issues.  The first s cholarship was awarded in 2016.

Nearly $300,000 has been raised for the endowment, surpassing the original goal of $250,000.  This will allow Minnesota State, Mankato – Olson’s graduate school alma mater – to raise the amount of the annual scholarship and stipend for the internship.

"We are about to begin the search for our second scholarship recipient," says Bill Blazar, senior vice president of public affairs and business development at the Minnesota Chamber. Local chambers are preparing internship proposals, and the Mankato College of Business will begin its selection process soon.  The new scholar will be announced by the end of the year.
