Urge Tax Conference Committee members to support up-front sales tax exemption for capital equipment

The Tax Conference Committee is in the process of crafting the omnibus tax bill. We remain hopeful that the bill will contain the provision to convert the sales tax refund program for capital equipment purchases to an up-front exemption. At present, the measure is in the Senate bill, but it is not in the House bill.

Converting the refund to an up-front exemption has long been a priority for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Now that the state has surplus revenue, we must ensure that this legislation passes this year.

The current process is cumbersome and hinders cash flow for Minnesota manufacturers, especially the small and medium-sized companies. The Department of Revenue supports elimination of the refund program.

Please contact your legislators and members of the Tax Conference Committees. Urge them to support legislation that will convert the current sales tax refund program to an up-front exemption.
