Honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Minnesota Chamber would like to acknowledge that Monday, January 15 is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King is most commonly known for his advocacy, social justice work and powerful speeches, such as “l Have a Dream,” which was delivered during his peaceful march in Washington, D.C. in 1963, at which over 250,000 people were present.

Many people quote Dr. King and use his speeches as teachings but fail to acknowledge the struggles and barriers he encountered in his civil rights work. He was arrested over 20 times and assaulted on multiple occasions. His persistence and deeply rooted desire to drive positive change and promote equal rights despite the continued resistance is what inspires me most about him.

We encourage business leaders to use Martin Luther King, Jr. day to acknowledge, support and educate employees on the tremendous contributions Dr. King made in our country, as well as encourage employees to participate in or attend a local event:
