The CFNAI is a weighted average of 85 indicators of national economic activity. It is constructed to have an average value of zero. A zero value indicates that the economy is expanding at its historical trend rate of growth. Negative values mean the economy is experiencing below-trend growth and positive values indicate growth above the historical trend.
