Sustainability Specialist

With 5 years of waste and education experience, Alaina is grateful to operate as a sustainability specialist in Hennepin County. Alaina earned a degree in Environment, Sustainability, and Geography from University of Minnesota, Duluth. While there, Alaina also obtained certificates in Sustainability Leadership and Geographic Information Sciences while working on waste sustainability and education with the University of Minnesota Duluth Office of Sustainability and interning at the City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling Department. 

After graduating, they worked for several nonprofits focused on sustainability, community care, and education across the Twin Cities. Alaina is most excited about providing culturally relevant waste and recycling education to people in multi-unit properties. Priorities held by Alaina include addressing barriers to and increasing overall participation, retention, involvement, and knowledge of recycling, organics recycling and bulky item reuse and recycling across Hennepin County. In their free time, they grow their knowledge of plants, agriculture, and ecosystems.
