Celebrating 250 years of free enterprise and launching the Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota contest

By Doug Loon
President and CEO
Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

As we look ahead to the coming month, we are reminded of an incredible milestone on the horizon: America's 250th anniversary. It’s a meaningful opportunity to reflect on two and a half centuries of American opportunity, innovation and the free enterprise economy that has fueled growth, entrepreneurship and prosperity across the country, and right here in our great state.

Minnesota businesses and workers have always played a starring role in that story. From manufacturing and agricultural leaders to pioneers in medical technology, energy and food production, our state’s impact is undeniable. At the Minnesota Chamber, we recently celebrated our 117th year of representing the business community. When you think about it, we’ve been around for basically half the time the country has existed. That is a proud legacy, and throughout the coming year, the Chamber will continue to share stories that highlight how Minnesota’s employers contribute to that ongoing history of growth and opportunity.

Nominations open July 6 for the Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota

Speaking of celebrating our legacy, I can’t think of a better way to honor our modern business community than by recognizing Minnesota's manufacturers. Nominations for the Chamber’s annual Coolest Thing Made in Minnesota contest officially open on Monday, July 6, kicking off this year's competition!

This annual contest highlights the incredible innovation and craftsmanship of Minnesota manufacturers, showcasing the wide range of unique products made right here in our backyard. Past finalists have run the gamut; from precision medical devices and industrial equipment to consumer favorites like craft beverages, outdoor gear and specialty foods packaged right in your local communities.

Here's a look at the schedule:

  • Nominations open: Monday, July 6
  • Nominations close: Friday, August 14
  • Public voting begins: Monday, August 31

On August 31, Minnesotans will once again choose their favorite products in a fun, bracket-style competition. We encourage members and communities all across the state to participate and help us spotlight the creativity and manufacturing that strengthens and defines Minnesota's economy.
