International Paper, White Bear Lake

International Paper is one of the world’s leading producers of fiber-based packaging, pulp and paper.

What makes a good business leader?
They are focused on building people and teams to accomplish shared goals. This starts with safety and ends with taking care of customers in an ethical and efficient way.

What book are you reading right now?
Most recently it is Patrick Lencioni’s “The Ideal Team Player.” They are Humble, Hungry, and People Smart (EQ). I appreciate this simple, but memorable approach.

Who inspires you the most? Why?
I am inspired by teams of people that build amazing structures like the Hoover Dam, One World Trade Center, and locally the new Highway 36 Bridge over the St. Croix River.

You are chair of the Minnesota Chamber’s Transportation Policy Committee. What are the benefits for you personally and for your company?
Efficient transportation modes are very important in order for International Paper to receive raw materials and then bring our products to market. I personally appreciate the opportunity to learn about the upcoming changes and challenges in transportation, as well as being on the cutting edge of transportation policy changes needed to keep up with our rapidly changing world.

What prompted you to join International Paper?
I value that International Paper is a global business and that we provide packaging that efficiently brings products to market all over the world.

What do you enjoy most about Minnesota?
My wife and I enjoy camping, and Minnesota offers many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. I love the lakes, our beautiful forests, and the overall landscape of the state. Also, Skol Vikings!

What’s your favorite pastime/hobby?
I enjoy reading history and leadership books, as well as solving puzzles of all types.
